Amazon Invests Up to $25 Billion in Anthropic in Landmark $100 Billion AWS Partnership

Amazon deepens its AI bet with a new $25 billion stake in Anthropic and a $100 billion AWS cloud commitment — mirroring an identical deal it struck with OpenAI just two months prior.

Amazon has announced it will invest up to $25 billion in Anthropic as part of an expanded partnership that also includes a commitment from the AI startup to spend more than $100 billion on Amazon Web Services over the next decade. The deal, disclosed on April 20, 2026, marks one of the largest corporate AI partnerships ever announced and significantly deepens Amazon's strategic bet on Anthropic.

Under the terms of the agreement, Amazon will immediately inject $5 billion into Anthropic at the company's current $380 billion post-money valuation, with up to $20 billion in additional funding tied to commercial milestones. In exchange, Anthropic will commit to spending over $100 billion on AWS infrastructure over the next ten years, covering Trainium AI chips, Graviton CPU cores, and future cloud services. The company expects to bring nearly one gigawatt of Trainium2 and Trainium3 capacity online by the end of 2026, with plans to ultimately secure up to five gigawatts of compute capacity from Amazon.

The arrangement closely mirrors a deal Amazon struck with OpenAI in February — which included a $50 billion investment and a corresponding $100 billion AWS cloud commitment. By securing parallel agreements with both leading AI labs, Amazon is positioning AWS as the default cloud infrastructure for the companies most likely to define artificial general intelligence. Under the new terms, the full Claude platform will be available directly within AWS, giving customers access to Anthropic's tools through their existing Amazon accounts, billing systems, and security controls — a deeper integration than the previous arrangement through Amazon Bedrock.

Anthropic, now valued at $380 billion after its $30 billion Series G round in February, has raised nearly $64 billion since its 2021 founding. The company reported $14 billion in annualized revenue, growing more than 10x annually for three consecutive years. Claude Code alone accounts for over $2.5 billion in run-rate revenue, with weekly active users doubling year over year. Amazon's continued investment signals strong confidence in Anthropic as a long-term pillar of the AWS ecosystem, even as Microsoft, Google, and others continue deepening their own AI lab partnerships.
