Meta Buys Conductor, the Parallel Coding-Agent App

Meta has acquired Conductor, the Mac app that runs Claude Code, Codex and Cursor agents side by side in isolated workspaces. Sign-ups closed on 4 November, Conductor Cloud goes read-only on 13 November and shuts down on 20 November, and the local app stops getting updates in early 2027. Meta has not disclosed terms.

Meta has acquired Conductor, a small startup whose Mac app lets developers run several AI coding agents at once, each in its own isolated workspace. Axios first reported the deal on 4 November, Conductor confirmed it the same day in a farewell post signed by ten members of the team, and Meta confirmed it to TechCrunch without giving terms. Chief executive Charlie Holtz wrote that Conductor is “joining Meta” and that the team has “big, crazy plans” for a new interface it expects to release early next year. On X he said he looked forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs.

The product launched in July 2025, when, as the team puts it, coding with agents was still unusual. Conductor does not make its own models. It orchestrates the agents other labs ship, and the homepage pitches it in one line: “Create parallel Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor agents in isolated workspaces.” A developer hands each agent a separate task, watches them work side by side, then reviews and merges each agent’s changes. The agent teams can run locally, in Conductor’s cloud, or be steered from a phone. The final release, version 0.93.0, still added GPT-6.1 Terra to the Codex model picker alongside the shutdown notice.

For existing users the wind-down is quick. From 4 November there are no new sign-ups and the app can no longer be downloaded, and free users cannot upgrade, while Pro subscribers keep Pro features at no charge. On 13 November Conductor Cloud becomes read-only and active subscribers are refunded. On 20 November the cloud service shuts down and deletion of cloud user data begins, so anyone with cloud workspaces should use the “Transfer to local” option or export everything from Settings before then. The local app keeps working, with new models and critical fixes, until early 2027. The team says it has never sold or trained on user data and that all of it will be deleted when the app shuts down.

The deal reads as talent and know-how for Meta’s own coding push rather than a product it plans to keep. Meta launched Muse Code, an agent that fans out several sub-agents across a large codebase, in August, and took it out of beta at $5 a month weeks later. The Muse app itself hit 10 million US downloads in 40 days, TechCrunch reported in October. Conductor is also not Meta’s first small agent buy this year; it acquired Moltbook, the viral social network for AI agents, in March. The awkward detail is Conductor’s product itself: it is built around Claude Code and Codex, the same tools Meta barred its engineers from using in June. Whatever Holtz’s team ships next, it will most likely run on Meta’s models.
