Apple Quietly Registers genai.apple.com Two Weeks Before WWDC, Telegraphing Its Long-Promised AI Reset

A new genai.apple.com subdomain spotted on May 23 — sitting dormant but reserved — is the clearest signal yet that WWDC 2026 will be the keynote where Apple finally ships the Siri overhaul it promised in 2024, reportedly powered by a custom 1.2-trillion-parameter Gemini model from Google.

Apple has been the quietest major player in the generative-AI race for two years, but a small piece of infrastructure surfaced this week suggests that is about to change. On May 23, 2026, MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris spotted a freshly registered subdomain — genai.apple.com — sitting on Apple’s own servers with no live page behind it. With WWDC 2026 opening on June 8, the timing leaves almost no doubt about what the page is being held for.

The signal matters because Apple’s AI story has been stuck for two years. At WWDC 2024 the company unveiled “Apple Intelligence,” promised a context-aware Siri capable of acting across apps, and then quietly pushed the most ambitious pieces of that vision into 2025 and then 2026. Coverage from 9to5Mac, The Mac Observer and Business Today all read the new subdomain the same way: as the marketing scaffolding for the relaunch Apple cannot afford to slip again.

What the new Siri is expected to do has been telegraphed in a string of leaks. According to Bloomberg, Apple has agreed to pay Google roughly billion a year for a custom 1.2-trillion-parameter Gemini model that will run inside Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, powering on-screen understanding, personal-context awareness and multi-step app actions. Alongside it Apple is preparing a standalone Siri app with persistent chat history, text-first input, the ability to turn physical tickets into Wallet passes, and expanded Visual Intelligence features for the iPhone’s camera.

The strategic frame is striking. Apple, which built its brand on doing AI in-house and on-device, is now reportedly renting frontier intelligence from Google while pushing as much inference as possible onto the iPhone, iPad and Mac themselves. That hybrid — Gemini in the cloud for hard reasoning, Apple silicon for everyday tasks — is meant to give the company a privacy story Microsoft and Google cannot easily match while closing the capability gap with ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.

Whether the new Siri arrives genuinely useful or once again ships in stages will define WWDC 2026. A live genai.apple.com on keynote day would be Apple’s admission that generative AI is no longer a feature inside iOS — it is the headline product. With Pope Leo XIV warning the same week that AI must “serve humanity, not replace it,” Apple’s pitch in two weeks will need to do both: prove the technology works, and prove it works on the user’s side.
